Why Use Anti-Corrosives for Car Parks & Warehouses?

06 June 2022

If you are looking for lighting that provides appropriate lux levels for warehouses or car parks that have a robust exterior and withstands extreme weather conditions or knocks and bangs, the anti-corrosives are an excellent choice.

This type of lighting is rapidly replacing dated fluorescent tube technology in retail, commercial and industrial applications and residential installations like garages and utility rooms, primarily due to their significantly lower power consumption and longer life spans.

Aurora’s got a good range of non-corrosive IP65 lighting options that are weatherproof, waterproof, shock resistant and dust proof, meaning you can trust them completely for any project you want to use them on. They provide many advantages including a 5-year warranty.

Car Parks

Appropriate light levels and light distribution are essential for personal safety in dark car parks and basement garages.  Furthermore, it is easier to see road markings and other cars, helping reduce accidents. Replacing the poor, dull, fluorescent and CFL lighting commonly found in parking areas with LED luminaires improves the user experience and reduces operational expenditure.

Should a car park be in operation all day, every day for 365 days-a-year a potential annual illumination of more than 8000 hours would be required. Therefore an optimum efficiency and a long lifespan are key to reducing energy and maintenance costs.

Often it is thought that substitute LED tubes in existing fittings will be a cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption. However the old polycarbonate fixtures often fail long before the new tubes, which results in doing the same job twice. Integrated fittings with an IP65 rating are far better suited to operating in the typically damp, dirty conditions found in car parks.

To further enhance energy savings and optimise energy usage, Aurora can also provide motion sensors and other lighting controls that can be used in conjunction with this type of lighting.

Car park lighting is advised in accordance with British and European Standard EN 12464-1. Here are some of the recommended lux levels applicable to outdoor covered car parks:

  • Ramps during the day: 300 lux
  • Ramps at night: 75 lux
  • Parking bays: 75 lux

Warehouses

Warehouses are often large spaces with high ceilings that require adequate lighting in order to function effectively. When specifying the lighting it is important to try and get it right the first time. Choosing cheap fixtures will only lead to additional costs at a later date.

Warehouse Lighting Level Requirements (Lux) (CIBSE Lighting Guide LG1 - 2018):

  • Storage areas where identification requires perception to detail - 150 lux
  • Continuously occupied storage areas where identification requires perception to detail - 300 lux
  • Loading bays - 150 lux
  • Unpacking, sorting - 300 lux
  • Large item storage - 100 lux
  • Small item rack storage - 300 lux
  • Issue Counters and Desks - 500 lux

Aurora’s LED IP65 LinearPac

Our IP65 LinearPac LED anti-corrosive is a highly efficient solution for both interior and exterior applications that provides up to 50% energy savings compared to traditional fluorescents. Designed for car parks, service areas, warehouses or retail environments. It comes with a 5 year warranty.

Housed with a vandal resistant polycarbonate body and diffuser, these linears have an efficacy of 120lm/W. They are easy to install due to a clip-in gear tray and multiple drill-out conduit entry points at the end and rear.

Supplied with two IP rated cable glands, the LinearPac has the advantage of microwave sensor detection range up to 14 metres as well as an adjustable light detector from 2-50 lux.

Make Linears Smart with AOne Zigbee

All of our linear ranges can be made smart and controlled simply by adding an AOne™ Zigbee Hub and an Inline Dimmer or Rotary Dimmer.

Aurora’s AOne is the world’s widest range of smart lighting and it can easily make over 1000 of Aurora’s products smart. It covers power, lighting and control, is easy to install and extremely cost effective when compared with traditional smart lighting systems.

Simply install the AOne Smart Hub and the AOne On/Off Relay to gain instant smart control over Aurora’s full linear range. This smart feature, which can be installed on all new and existing installations, adds lighting management, cost savings, reliability and operational efficiency. Added smart control is particularly useful in warehouse environments when large areas are often left unused for long periods of time.
