Project Snapshot

Aurora Lighting was engaged to deliver innovative lighting solutions to drive energy efficiencies throughout Chantry Place. Collaborating closely with the Norwich branch of Edmundson’s Electrical and the Chantry Place Maintenance Team, this multi-phase project aims to modernise the lighting infrastructure, utilising state-of-the-art LED technology to develop functionality and aesthetics.

The primary objective to date has been to replace outdated lighting systems with energy-efficient LED solutions that reduce energy consumption and improve the overall quality of light across back-of-house operations and public areas. Work completed to date has created a brighter, more welcoming environment for shoppers while ensuring operational needs are met efficiently.

Key focus

Aurora introduced advanced LED lighting solutions that significantly improve the quality of light throughout the shopping centre. These energy-efficient fixtures improve visibility and create a more inviting atmosphere for shoppers while contributing to lower energy costs for the centre.

The project included the installation of cutting-edge lighting controls that allow for tailored lighting levels in various areas of the centre. This flexibility enables the Chantry Place Maintenance Team to adjust lighting according to specific needs, optimising energy use and enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Product selection

  • As part of the ongoing lighting upgrade, approximately 200 Slim-Fit™ low-profile downlights have been installed. Designed to deliver exceptional light output and uniformity, these downlights are a perfect fit for the centre’s diverse lighting needs.

The low-profile downlights feature a plug-and-play remote driver and utilise advanced edge-lit LED technology. A slim design of just 20mm deep makes them perfect for installations with limited recess space, and they are IP44-rated for water and dust resistance. A lifespan of L70 40,000 hours ensures durability and long-term performance.

  • The lighting upgrade also features the innovative LEDLine™ RGBCX 24W Strip, a flexible LED strip with cut points every 100mm and a 3M™ self-adhesive backing for easy installation. These strips feature a CRI90 rating that gives vivid colour representation and provides a dynamic lighting solution for various applications around the shopping centre.

Featuring a 120° beam angle and 70 LEDs per metre, the strips even even light distribution. Supplied on a 30m reel length, the RGB variant gives millions of colour options, making it a valuable addition to the lighting design at Chantry Place that enhances both functionality and aesthetics

  • Introducing BatPacCWS Battens to the overall lighting strategy ensures a well-lit and inviting environment for visitors to Chantry Place. Around 400 of these plug-and-play linear lights have been installed to date, each colour switchable between 3000K, 4000K, and 6500K to allow for tailored lighting solutions to suit different areas and preferences.

With an IK08 rating, these battens are impact-resistant and operate efficiently in temperatures ranging from -20 to +45°C. Easily surface mounted or suspended, the modular design allows the wattage to be adjusted between 31W and 54W. The battens at Chantry Place feature a microwave sensing option to provide added energy savings.

  • Several Proxima™ 50W 6000lm 4000K floodlights have been utilised to illuminate the centre’s facade. Featuring a robust aluminium housing that ensures excellent heat dissipation, its tempered frosted glass provides a soft, even light distribution that enhances the aesthetic appeal of the shopping centre’s exterior.

The floodlight’s IP65 rating protects them against dust and water, and they also boast an IK05 rating for impact resistance, ensuring durability in various conditions. The 50W variant delivers an impressive efficacy of 120lm/W and a lifespan of L70 30,000 hours, making it a reliable choice for commercial applications.

Project Result

Installing Aurora’s lighting solutions has transformed Chantry Place into a brighter, more energy-efficient shopping environment. The introduction of LED technology aligns with the centre’s commitment to sustainability, and by reducing energy consumption, the new lighting solutions lower operational costs and make it a more sustainable retail destination.

Plans are in place to extend the energy savings by installing anti-corrosive battens with microwave sensors throughout the centre’s underground parking areas to lower power consumption and drive further efficiencies.
