NEW RSeries: Aurora launches Innovative Fire Rated Downlights

20 October 2021

Aurora introduces its latest innovative range of fire rated downlights - the RSeries™!

This brand new family of downlights will start hitting wholesalers shelves across the UK this month, enabling contractors and end users more flexibility than ever before.

Multiple Options & Benefits

Aurora’s RSeries allows users to choose the most suitable and desired colour and wattage on installation. The IP65 downlights offer the choice of single colour, colour switchable and a wattage and colour switchable option. Colour switchable options are 3000K, 4000K and 5700K. Wattage and Colour Switchable options are 4W, 6W, 8W and 3000K, 4000K and 5700K, offering a total of 36 combinations, which is a great feature for both the contractor and wholesaler.

Developed with the contractor in mind, the RSeries has been designed for an extremely easy and quick install. It comes with a detachable driver with colour coded, loop-in loop-out push terminals for use with either solid or stranded cable. There is a screwless cable strain relief allowing you to simply close the cap to secure the cables in place for a fully tool free installation.  The range provides a 50,000hr lifetime and an extended 5 year warranty.

These downlights have a slim height of 50mm so are ideal for low ceiling voids. Supplied with a white IP65 polycarbonate bezel, with matt black, polished chrome and satin nickel option available to purchase separately. The downlight and driver are both insulation coverable.

Having been fire tested, they are ready for use in a range of i-Joists, Metal Web and Solid Timber Joists.

Fire Rated Downlights in Brief

The Fire Rated Downlight is a life-saving luminaire specifically designed with fire barriers in mind. From the steel can that can withstand the extremely high temperatures experienced in a fire, through to the intumescent material which expands when heated, sealing up any ventilation holes in the fitting, the construction of fire-rated luminaires prevents the fire from spreading through a fixture into the roof space across a fire barrier.

Residential properties must have a minimum period of resistance, which depends on the height of the top floor and depths of any basement below ground level. For above ground installations, minimum fire rating can range from 30 minutes to 120 minutes protection whilst below ground level applications will have either 60 or 90 minutes of protection.

Fire Rated and Joist Testing

Over the past 15 years Aurora has established itself as one of the largest fire rated downlight manufacturers in the UK and at the forefront of compliance and testing, ensuring that at all times our downlights comply and meet with the latest approvals and regulations governed by the residential building industry.

Recently, developers have changed their construction methods in respect of joists and ceiling configuration whereby tests and assessments achieved with old construction methods do not achieve compliance with the new engineered joist designs.

Aurora are once again at the forefront of testing its relevant product ranges with the industry leaders in I-Joist and web joist manufacture; Staircraft, Steico, James Jones, Metsä and Wolf Systems, ensuring that whichever joists are used in the build, Aurora has the answer.

When selecting from the RSeries and all of Aurora’s fire rated products you can be sure that all relevant fire rated tests have been carried out and that the product is compliant with current building regulations.

Easy to make Smart

Aurora’s AOne Zigbee solution can easily make the RSeries smart! Covering power, lighting and control, it is easy to install and extremely cost effective when compared with traditional smart lighting systems.

The new RSeries can be controlled simply by adding an AOne hub and an inline dimmer or dimmer switch. Once these are installed, users can use our remote control or their phone to manage lighting throughout their homes.
