In Review: Aurora Lighting in 2020

04 January 2021

It is fair to say that 2020 has been a rollercoaster ride for us all with Covid-19, starting with the shock of a lockdown in March followed by a summer of trying to get back on track and then ending in tiered lockdown restrictions and the emergence of two new strains.

Whilst hoping for a much brighter 2021, we look back at the new product launches and activities introduced during 2020.

Connect.Control Launch

One of our biggest 2020 announcements was the launch of our brand new bluetooth smart lighting range: Connect.Control.

A super simple smart solution, Connect.Control can be used straight out of the box - there’s absolutely no set up required! Operated with bluetooth technology, users can manage their lighting with just a remote control, an excellent method as it means that whether it’s installed in the lounge, dining room or children’s bedroom, anyone in the household can easily set the lighting to their preference.

To install Connect.Control in any room users can just open the box, install the light fittings, turn on the remote and you’ve got smart lighting. Users don’t even need a hub or have to download an app.

Joist Construction

Successful I-joist tests have resulted in many of our fire-rated downlights achieving certification or been tested with four joist manufacturers: Staircraft and Steico, Metsa and James Jones.

Solid Timber Joist Certification has also been achieved with several products at 30, 60 minutes and 90 minutes.

Web Joist testing has also been conducted with Wolf Systems.

LEDLine™ Cob

LEDline™ COB single colour 24V super bright LED strip (EN-ST1024) is ideal for when LED strip with a higher lumen output is required. The COB features a run of continuous light, eliminating LED hot spots and provides a different look compared to standard LED strip, perfect for use on reflective kitchen surfaces such as marble. Furthermore, even more savings can be made due to it having a low power consumption of 10W per metre.

Our most versatile lighting solution, Aurora’s LED strip and flex works perfectly in an array of applications, and this will make it even easier to incorporate it into a lighting design scheme.

X7 Fire Rated Downlight

In October we announced the launch of our brand new Fire Rated IP65 Downlight - the X7™.

A new addition to Aurora’s market leading portfolio of fire rated downlights, the X7 is an LED integrated fixed IP65 downlight delivering up to 89lm/W with an overall height of only 58mm, making it ideal for shallow ceiling voids.

One of the biggest benefits of our latest product is that it has an integrated driver with a loop in/out terminal block for quick and easy installation and comes complete with a polycarbonate white IP65 bezel. There’s an additional choice of satin nickel and polished chrome options.

Growing Emergency Range

Aurora has continued in 2020 to add to it’s growing range of emergency lighting.

Recent additions are our 3W and 5W Maintained Emergency Bulkheads, which come in both Manual and Self Test versions. They offer 3 hours emergency backup, can be maintained or non-maintained and include the required legends to suit all applications.

Another newbie is our 2 x 1.5W Emergency Twin Spot. The new Emergency Twin Spot offers 3 hours emergency backup duration, and is non-maintained for use in the event of a power outage. Choose between Manual Test or Self Test function.

Webinars & #AskAurora

Immediately following the announcement of the March lockdown, we introduced a webinar and video series, #AskAurora, to provide information on key issues, our product ranges and services.

Webinar topics included Lighting Terminology, I-joist & Fire Rated Downlights and AOne Commissioning. Watch all our webinars here.

The #AskAurora videos we have put together include answers to questions for both our smart product ranges and lighting ranges such as ‘How Secure is the AOne System?’ and ‘GU10 lamps: Useful Lumens & Total Lumens. What’s the Difference?’. View all #AskAurora Videos here.

Looking at 2021...

Although the pandemic is far from over, we are positive this will be a much better year for us all and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We are continuing to enhance and will be bringing out many more new products this year and stay tuned for more videos on our smart solutions.
