The Benefits of Panels - Perfect for Offices, Care Homes & Hospitals, Schools & Universities

15 December 2021

When it comes to LED commercial panel lighting, there are many reasons for considering it in a lighting design. They come with multiple benefits, especially in office, education and health care environments. The following are just some of many:

Long Lifespan

Many LEDs have a rated life of up to 100,000 hours and less lumen depreciation, therefore the quality of light will diminish over a longer period of time, instead of abruptly failing to work.

Equal Light Distribution

LED panels provide a balanced, equal distribution of light throughout the entire space or designated area, making them ideal for open spaces where task lighting is required such as in classrooms or office areas.

Versatile Sizes & Mounts

LED panel lighting comes in a range of common sizes and mount options. 600x600mm LED panel lights are the most common installed form of lighting in commercial premises here in the UK, yet other sizes of LED panels that can come in 1200x300mm and 1200x600mm are also gaining in popularity. Recessed, surface mounted and suspended options give businesses choices when it comes to maximising light as well as creating a suitable lighting design.

Dimmable & Non-Dimmable

LED panel lights these days come in dimmable and non-dimmable options. This produces a varied and versatile lighting solution that can produce a different effect throughout your premises. In education and offices, lighting can be dimmed, for example, during the day when natural light is sufficient. In hospitals, lighting can be dimmed easily for operations or when patients require rest.

Aurora’s commercial lighting range has always been popular within business, education and health care that want or need to save energy and costs whilst maintaining a professional image.

Aurora Lighting, which was one of the first companies to introduce LED lighting to replace halogens and fluorescents, has continued to upgrade and make enhancements to its commercial product range, including its popular and ever expanding range of panel based products.

EdgeLite Flat Panels

In the PRO range, the EdgeLite™ LED flat panels have been upgraded to produce more lumens - 130lm/W - and are now  TP(a) rated. This rating covers polycarbonate diffusers and  means that the material used will self-extinguish and will not still be glowing or flaming for more than five seconds after a flame has been removed.

With a high quality PMMA light guide designed to prevent yellowing, these edge-lit panels have a power factor greater than 0.9 and have been engineered to ensure maximum light output and complete uniformity. Comprising a flicker free driver, these panels have a UGR19 glare rating and are suitable for 15mm and 24mm T-bar ceilings. They come with a 5 year warranty.

EdgeLite Suspended Panels

Furthermore, Aurora’s EdgeLite™ range of LED Edge-Lit suspended panels, which feature a flicker free driver and a lightweight slim aluminium frame, now deliver 100lm/W with a power factor greater than 0.9 and a UGR 19 rating. Light distribution is 70% down and 30% upward, with light distributed being 2800 and 1200 lumens respectively. These also come with a 5 year warranty.

Go Smart With AOne for Further Energy Savings

Smart technology will play a big role in the future when it comes to companies managing their energy consumption and costs.

Aurora’s AOne Zigbee solution is compatible with SmartThings, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It covers power, lighting and control, is easy to install and extremely cost effective when compared with traditional smart lighting systems. It can easily make any office smart.

Using Aurora’s AOne Zigbee products, businesses can now make our panels smart, enabling automated schedules and adding sensors where necessary.

For schools this type of system is ideal for when students enter and leave a classroom or lecture theatre where lights can be automatically scheduled to turn off or on according to the room timetable.

In offices, smart lighting can be used to sense when staff are in and come on accordingly, and meeting rooms can be set to daily schedules.

Hospitals and care homes can also greatly benefit from smart systems such as AOne. When smart technology is added to LED lighting, hospitals can provide patients in wards or rooms with a more personalised service, giving them the opportunity to control the light above their beds with just a remote.
