Bespoke Retail Lighting Project, from Design to Installation.

We absolutely love the new look and feel of the stores. It's amazing how lighting makes such a big difference in a store. We are truly impressed.

THE PROJECT

LOCATION:
Kenya, Africa

CLIENT:
Quickmart

A snapshot

Quickmart is a homegrown supermarket established in 2006 with its first branch in Nakuru town. Their brand has continued to expand and there are a total of 43 branches in 11 counties across Kenya and still growing. Lighting design and project management from start to finish was carried out by Aurora South Africa.

The aim of this project was to provide a bespoke retail lighting solution for new and existing stores that focused on the various areas within the store, enhancing the products and brand. Starting in the front of the stores with the Fresh Produce areas, through to the grocery aisles. Also including the general store lighting and ending with the back of house fittings.

The Project

Aurora’s project objectives involved coming up with a design concept that could be effectively and efficiently rolled out to eight Quickmart stores. The same products were specified for the project but the product design needed to be adjusted to suit both new build and existing stores.

In the service areas, such as Fruit and Veg, Bakery and Butchery, we installed track and spots with various beam angles and high CRI’s to ensure the produce and products were appropriately illuminated, drawing in the customers. Making the products pop using the correct CRI fittings was a key objective in these stores.

For general lighting in the bigger stores we installed the Kayon fitting at a higher level and the Aurora Arroline Linear at a lower/level to highlight products in both the grocery aisles and general merchandise areas. The Aurora ARROLINE 1700MM 75° BI-SYMMETRIC fitting is definitely a market leader in the retail space.

In the back of house we used a combination of EdgeLite Pro panels 600X600 for the staff canteen, the BatPac Pro 1500mm for general areas and the Anti-Corrosive 1500mm in the areas where an IP65 vapor proof fitting was required.

To summarise, the following products were used:

AFTER
RESULT

The project turned out to be a tremendous success and everyone was pleased with the results. Currently a total of 8 stores were completed across the whole of Kenya, however the project may continue as Quickmart grows and opens more stores.

“This project was a mix of new and existing stores, on larger and smaller sites. We used a variety of fittings to ensure all types of areas were lit appropriately. The result has proved successful with staff and customers alike,” said Chantelle Dean, Retail Specifications Sales Executive at Aurora Lighting South Africa.
