Cure Day Hospitals - Wilgeheuwel

A snapshot

The Cure Day Hospital Wilgeheuwel is a modern, new state-of-the-art Day Hospital that provides world-class patient care and comfort. The Hospital is conveniently located at the Corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Cascades Road, Little Falls in Roodepoort (next to the Volvo Garage).

Cure Day Wilgeheuwel is a 3 theatre and 18 bed facility that will have a relaxed feel. The professional and friendly staff will provide a stress-free stay for children and parents alike.

Following a free consultation, Aurora Lighting was appointed to manage the entire project, from recommendations to managing installations.

The Project

The hospital required a full turnkey lighting solution, which Aurora could provide, and specifically requested a simple yet sleek and clean final look.

A strict project requirement was the installation of a 100% flicker free solution for the operating theaters, which was vital as the hospital mainly caters for advanced eye surgery cases. It was also necessary that all fittings should adhere to South African National Standards (SANS) standards.

Aurora completely redesigned the lighting layout in order to ensure we met not only the client’s requirements and expectations but also those of the Electrical Engineers.

There was a request from the client and engineer that every emergency fitting have a clearly visible marker light. This was to indicate the charge status of each battery backup unit as well as to make all emergency fittings clearly identifiable. We designed and manufactured these indicator lights so that they were stand alone units. By making them stand alone units we were able to avoid adapting each light fitting to include an onboard indicator light. This removed the risk of damaging the fittings during a retrofit of the indicators completely. The final look and feel of the stand alone units was better than we all had hoped for: clean, sleek and functional.

AFTER
RESULT

Meeting all criteria was essential for the client and Aurora achieved this on time and on budget.

“We understand the requirements necessary for healthcare. They are always rigorous and require attention to detail. Achieving the look as well as providing high performance luminaires is essential due to the nature of the tasks carried out in these environments. This has been a very rewarding project and we have enjoyed working with everyone involved,” said Robb Dean, Specifications, QSR & Smart Sales Executive, Aurora Lighting South Africa.
