Merchandise is King in New Design for Lloyds Apotek

Achieving the desired look and feel for this store has enabled us the opportunity to carry the lighting design scheme across many more stores within the portfolio throughout the rest of the UK and Europe.

A snapshot

Aurora Project’s lighting team coordinated with McKesson to formulate a design guide that ensures continuity throughout the McKesson estate. The focus was to revitalise the look and feel of the stores, whilst still maintaining a brand and style consumers were familiar with.

The first site in Sweden acted as an initial trial for McKesson’s larger rollout and Aurora, their long term lighting partner, was pleased to be involved in the very first installation and the wider scale design development. Most pharmacies are destination stores where the customers arrive with specific needs. This allowed us to place a strong emphasis on wayfinding and light levels. The lighting design had to ensure that the right balance between practical considerations and visual aesthetics were met, whilst showcasing the products in store clearly.

The Project

In order to champion the store products Aurora Lighting used highly focused accent illumination on the perimeter shelving, concentrating on vertical illumination. Aurora’s lighting design team coordinated with the client’s store designers to specify high efficacy LED luminaires. Careful project management ensured the new look was successfully delivered as planned in the trial stores.

The overall lighting effect was achieved with discrete, recessed, adjustable luminaires and created the desired focus on the verticals. Using a high level of accent lighting on the shelving now pulls customers’ attention to the store products, and promotes exploration of the whole space. Attention to detail with focussing during the final install provided the desired crisp, clean look and feel in store.

The combined teams of McKesson and Aurora Lighting were pleased with the result. This has won Aurora the opportunity to roll out the scheme into several stores around Europe during 2019.
