We had a few different companies out to sample their products and none resonated with the customer to fit what they were trying to achieve. Will Hamilton from Aurora came out to demo the products and give the client a walk through of the AOne Zigbee system. Once the client had seen the smart capabilities of AOne he realised that he could control the full lighting system from anywhere via his phone, and set scenes and schedules, which would provide a fully automated system. We had originally planned for an original DMX system with multiple switching, however when Will showed the capabilities of AOne with the full colour spectrum available and the ease of install we were able to greatly reduce the cost of the installation and give the client full smart lighting features and still come under budget. With the lighting being fully automated we opted to install kinetic switches to act as master switches for each part of the restaurant to allow manual dimming of the lights on demand for staff without interfering with the preset scenes and schedules. ”

GiGi’s Italian Restaurant
Gigi’s restaurant, established in April 2011 by mother and son team Marisa and Luigi Pia, offers a fun, family style restaurant to the residents of Midlothian, Scotland. With a combination of great food, service with a smile and catering for all occasions Gigi’s provides something for everyone. To enhance the look and feel of the restaurant, Gigi’s decided to undertake some renovations.
The key objectives for the project included installing minimal switches, illuminating the restaurant to provide various moods, modernising it and enhancing its features with colour changing technology.
Partnering with Michael Larkin - ML Electrical Services - Aurora accepted the request to provide a demonstration of the AOne Zigbee smart lighting system. Understanding their desire for colour changing lighting and minimal switches, the AOne Zigbee system proved to be the right fit.
With the strategy confirmed, the implementation of Aurora’s AOne commenced to enhance the restaurant with colour using the latest in smart technology.
By adding smart control to the LED Strip, Gigi’s are now able to preset different RGB colour scenes that can be controlled by a simple touch of a button on a smartphone or tablet. Multi user capabilities means that all of the staff can take control of the lighting settings if the owners wish for this to happen.
Although there was a request for minimal switches, Gigi’s saw the benefit of Aurora’s wireless kinetic switch, which can be placed anywhere and used easily to control the lighting by any member of staff.
New RGB colour cycling allows the user to select this setting and the LED Strip will automatically cycling through the range of different colours in either fast or slow mode, perfect when trying to create a different settings, e.g. parties, romantic, bright, etc.
