Smyths Toys Superstores is an Irish multinational chain provider of children's toys and entertainment products with over 200 shops throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland and Austria which are owned by the Smyth family. The company is headquartered in Lyrr Building 1 in the Mervue Business Park, Galway, Ireland, and it has additional offices in Belfast and London in the United Kingdom.
The client’s key objective was for Aurora to provide an appropriate retrofit lighting solution that would replace the outdated fluorescent technology with LED products with an emphasis of increasing retail light levels to 750-1000 lux and dramatically reduce energy consumption.

The Project
The strategy for this project involved producing a new design layout that utilised existing product locations where possible, thus limiting the need for construction works to ceilings.
Although the site had false ceilings at first floor level it was impossible to recess products, and on ground floor level the fitting had to be perfectly aligned while being suspended. The electrical contractors, MMK Electrical Ltd, installed an excellent surface and unique suspended solution which required laser levelling of all products to ensure perfection.
The products used in this project consisted of a mixture of panels, commercial downlights and lamps. Our gratitude to our project supply Partners, Eastern Electrical, East Wall Branch, Dublin 3.
The panels used from our selection, which are all TP(a) rated, were the EdgeLite™Pro, which delivers up to 130lm/W, and Aurora’s new backlit panel, the BackLite™, which has uniquely lensed LEDs that have been engineered to ensure maximum light output and complete uniformity.
Also used during the install was the Uni-Fit™ commercial downlight that features ThermoTec™ technology, an integrated driver and high quality LED chips to deliver an outstanding lumen performance.
The ICE™ lamps used to achieve significant energy savings and light output, They have proved to be exceptionally reliable delivering up to 540 lumens in both dimmable and non-dimmable, allowing for direct halogen lamp replacement at a fraction of the energy consumption.

RESULT
We were extremely pleased to supply Aurora’s products to such a notable and popular brand within Ireland, and they are delighted with the results, both aesthetically and in terms of energy savings. The increased light levels, both vertical and horizontal, are now ideal for the sale of retail products.
The installation went smoothly and the final result exceeded client expectations with an impressive energy saving of 62% compared to previous fittings.
