Re-energising with a Clean, Fresh approach

Luton and Dunstable University Hospital is pleased to report a good saving on costs has been achieved and we are well into payback of the initial capital project investment. Overall, we were very impressed with Aurora - and believe that ultimately we have achieved the vast majority of goals we had initially set out to achieve.

A snapshot

Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (LDUH), the first NHS Foundation trust in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, sought a more cost-effective, energy-efficient LED lighting installation as well as one that creates a welcoming ambience throughout the hospital.

As part of a £6m refurbishment throughout the existing hospital complex, the objective of this project was to create a more cost-effective, energy-efficient installation and one that creates a more welcoming ambience with a crisp and fresh feel throughout.

Aurora’s strategy involved the upgrade of existing fittings, which were primarily tungsten halogen and fluorescent in type, with LED technology.

Leslie Barras, Mechanical & Electrical Capital Projects Manager, Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, says that creating a safe, clean and friendly environment was a core objective; “It is extremely important that patients feel as at ease and as comfortable as they can and this is especially important in places such as the consultancy rooms.”

the solution
  • VERSITILE
  • Awarded five stars and described as “great value” by Lux Magazine, Aurora’s VersiTile retrofit LED flat panel range with an edge-lit design is ideal for suspended ceilings and offers both superior light performance and longevity.
  • The panels are ideal for use with daylight sensors to adjust to change in light levels and space requirements. Colour Xchange (CX) models are specially designed to create biodynamic lighting with independent dimming and colour temperature adjustment.
  • DSERIES
  • The dSeries range of fixed, dimmable IP44 downlights features CrystalCool™ next generation thermal management. The reduced heatsink allows installation in shallow ceiling voids.
